Whippingham Heritage Trail - A New Look at Some Old Places
This year we are again undertaking two guided walks to highlight some of the facets of Whippingham’s past. As well as the full Heritage Trail route, the Team have devised a new walk with a different theme: Departures and Destinations on Tuesday 11th May starts at the Folly Inn, but although initially following some of the Heritage Trail we are going off at a tangent a little bit as there is an additional route and the difference is in the historical focus on some of the places along the way. We hope our visitors will find this interesting. We will be returning to our place of departure at the Folly so there's the chance to have some refreshment or even lunch after the walk!
On the morning of Thursday 20th we will be undertaking the full route of the Heritage Trail, which amongst other facts gives an insight into Whippingham’s role as part of the Royal Osborne Estate, so anyone who is visiting Osborne House or St. Mildred's Church this summer may like to include a guided walk around the historical village of Whippingham.
Incidentally, if you haven't been to St. Mildred's, the church is open to visitors from 10.00am - 4.00pm on Tuesday to Thursday so it is a good opportunity to do both on the same day; refreshments are also available in the Coffee Shop.
As well as the Whippingham Heritage Trail Leaflet and Map, Whippingham Community Association have now produced two booklets giving some additional and interesting pieces of information about the village of Whippingham. They are entitled"People and Places in Whippingham" and "Flora and Fauna of Whippingham". The booklets can be purchased from Whippingham Post Office and East Cowes Heritage Centre at £1 each or £1.75 for the pair.
